The village of Les Cases d’Alcanar, in the province of Tarragona, is still an authentic fishing village, where the fishing trade coexists with a varied range of activities in the area. 

It is a top Catalan destination, with a climate that is almost always pleasant and the hostel is just a few minutes from the beach and fishing harbour. The site is an ideal place for leisure and sea activities with modern facilities and the option of sports and nautical activities.

Routes and itineraries

Its proximity to Alcanar means that there are many excursions and cultural visits worth seeing, including the Iberian village of Moleta del Remei and the Remei hermitage, with spectacular panoramic views over the delta and the bay of the Alfacs. You can visit the port, the beaches, the promenade and the mouth of the river (where the river Sénia meets the sea). In Les Cases d’Alcanar you can also visit places of historical importance, enjoy the beaches and the fishing harbour, eat clementine mandarins with designation of origin or, a little further on, walk through the Montsià mountain range surrounded by places of great natural beauty. 

The Ports de Tortosa-Beseit are a system of rocky outcrops, laced with great rivers that carve deep ravines in their wake. The rocks of Benet and the area of El Ventador and the Salt de Satorres cannot be missed. Another highlight is the Cova Pintada, in Alfara de Carles, whose walls are covered in prehistoric cave paintings. 

Another unmissable site is the Ebro delta, where you can visit the mouth of the Ebro river, El Fangar and La Banya. You can explore the area with outdoor activities like biking and water sports. 

In the Montsià range, take a trip to La Foradada, where nature’s whim will make you feel the demons of the range when the cold, northwesterly mistral wind blows hard; the majesty of the range contemplated and perceived as you walk below the limestone cliffs along the Faixes Tancades trail; the water that bubbles from the fountains of Fumat, Molacina, Piqueta, Bassiol or Pouet d’Antó itself, the Iberian settlements of Sant Jaume and Moleta del Remei, mute witnesses to the pass of the Ilercavons through these lands. 

The mouth of the river Sénia is a recognised area of natural and scenic interest, home to a great diversity of plant and animal species and located between the Ebre delta and the Albufera lagoon in Valencia, which turns it into a stopping point for migratory birds. 

Sant Carles de la Ràpita, 11 km away, is a sea town where you can visit the fishing port and enjoy the local gastronomy, whose star dish is rice, a typical crop from the zone. 

In Peñiscola, 31 km away, you can visit the large, walled castle-fortress, called Pope Luna’s Castle, and the old city, with medieval buildings.
