Santa Maria del Roure can be found right in the middle of the Way of Saint James and is blessed with magnificent natural surroundings, framed by oak and birch groves.

It’s just a short trip to the waterfall of La Foradada, El Camí dels Enamorats (Lovers’ Way), the cliffs of Aiats and the valley of Rotllada, which make Cantonigròs a remarkable place to enjoy your free time in a fulfilling way in continuous contact with nature.

The Santa Maria del Roure House is surrounded by a large garden that contains many tree and bush species, which form natural fences. There is also a play space for children and picnic tables.

As for the house’s facilities, there are rooms with bathrooms en suite and 4, 6 and 8 beds, a dining room, a kitchen and a games room. In the same enclosure, guests can enjoy an uncovered swimming pool in summertime, athletics track and amphitheatre. In the area around the house, there are magnificent open spaces, a picnic area and a playground.

It is designed to host schools involved in the Collsacabra Nature Schools Project, where schools and families with children can develop pedagogical programmes of environmental discovery. Santa Maria del Roure also hosts leisure centres, athletic groups, groups of friends and organisations.

*For this season 2025, the pool is expected to be available to all users between 15/06 and 31/08. When you contact the person in charge of the facility, they will inform you of any eventuality in this respect. If you wish to book the facility with pool availability outside these dates, please ask at the reservation centre.

Routes and itineraries

One of the recommended activities is hiking since it is an ideal starting point for exploring a number of routes, for the youngest members of the family as well. In fact, an hour and a half away on foot, there is the Sanctuary of Cabrera with an impressive summit, an exceptional lookout point over the Catalan territory from which the Plain of Vic, Puigsacalm, Cadí and Montseny can all be observed.

Another essential visit is the town of Tavertet, a typical town with excellent views of the Susqueda wetlands and Les Guilleries. The town centre has a special charm, with houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and the Romanesque church of Sant Cristòfol.

Two trips can be made from the house: to La Foradada, thirty minutes away, and to the lovely waterfall of the Gorgues Stream and Faig Spring, twenty minutes away.

Other interesting places to visit are Rupit and Pruit, an hour and a half away, two well-preserved, traditional medieval towns. From there you can go, in just thirty minutes, to Sant Joan de Fàbregues, where there is a remarkable Romanesque church. You can also go, in an hour, to the Mondois Plain, a plateau overlooking the Susqueda wetlands, or to the Sallent waterfall, in twenty-five minutes.

The house is forty minutes from Vic, where you can visit the Episcopal Museum, the Leather Art Museum, the cathedral of Vic, the Jewish quarter, the Roman temple, the historic centre and the main square. The medieval market, held in the month of December, is a special highlight.

In Roda de Ter, you can visit the remains of the Iberian settlement L’Esquerda and the city walls, where the main street with dwellings, the church, the cemetery, workshops and warehouses can all be observed.
